Coaching & 3 Story Evangelism
All of the statements below appear in the coaching training program. They are also mirrored to a great extent in the 3 Story training. Both Coaching and 3 Story share YFC values of relationship and the importance and value of the other. Coaching like evangelism is not about what we know and are trying to impart or teach but rather about the needs and spiritual journey of the other person. The more we focus on them the greater the opportunity we give the Spirit of God to work through us. This applies as much for coaching as it does for 3 Story Evangelism.
- Coaching isn’t telling; it’s listening
- Coaching isn’t directing; it’s discovering.
- Coaching isn’t past-centred; it’s future centred.
- Coaching doesn’t rely on the coach’s knowledge; it relies on the capability and ownership of the one being coached.
- The person being coached sets the agenda for the coaching process.
- Coaching works with their goals and within their framework
- Acknowledge that most people have the resources to achieve what they want.
- Work in a manner that always empowers and avoids dependence.
- The coach does not have the answers; the coach has questions.
- Coaching is about creating a safe and courageous space for the one being coached.
Go through these statements and change the coaching emphasis to 3 Story Evangelism and see how they apply.
